Francois Thibault + Victoire Bienvennu dit Delisle

√ Parents of Francois Thibaut
3G grandparents of William Roland Spies

You will not find a marriage record so easily read and so full of important information as this one. Both spouses give their parents’ names and their native places. (The year is 1804, so people in St. Ferdinand were not yet part of the United States, and the Baltimore diocese covered all the territory east of the Mississippi, including Kaskaskia.)

The list of witnesses reads like a list of your (Spies) family names: Auvray (Ouvre), Riviere, Thibault, Presse, Bienvenu dit Delisle, Calve, Reaume. Nearly all the witnesses were unable to sign their names, so they made those X marks on the page.

Sadly, the baptism record of their son is damaged. One can read some of it. However, there is also an index to baptisms that includes the names of child and parents.
