The baptism record names his mother but not his father. It says he was her “natural son,” born October 28, 1844. It calls his mother “Therese Lorain, alias Madame Bte Ouvre.” (But she was the widow of Louis Ouvre, not Baptiste.) The godparents are his mother’s siblings.

Elizabeth Pilere married Joseph Montreuil in 1866 and died in 1868.

Both parents are named. His mother is called Therese Ouvre.
Jean Pilere died in April of 1857. (burial record)

Census Records:

Before 1850, only the head of a household was named.

1850 Census

Very puzzling. Her name is Therese Overy. The household is headed by her brother-in-law, Andre Presse. Her children Jean Baptiste Overy (1836-1917), Antoine Overy (1838-1899), and August Overy (1844-1924) are present. Present also is 2-year-old Elizabeth Overy. But Therese re-married in 1849. Where is the new husband, Pilere? It is possible that Therese was only visiting her sister on the day of the census.

More research is needed. There is a baptism record for Elizabeth Pilere (1848). And Pilere married Therese in 1849. August cannot be the son of Louis Ouvre, who died in 1838.
