Son of Alexander Stratton and Catherine Worline √
Husband of Anna A Main √
Facts (with source information): Narrative Report
Here you can see an American family moving across the country. Elias and Anna, his wife, were born in central Ohio (where they married and had two children), moved to Illinois (where their youngest child was born), then to St. Louis (where their daughter married), then to Colorado. We do not know why they decided to leave Ohio, but there is no doubt that they moved westward.

Biographical Sketch of his Father
This is a transcript of the 1880 Biography of Alexander Stratton in “History of Delaware County …” This old book is one of many that were published in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The company collected information about a community, presumably by interviewing the leading citizens, and published it. So, what we have here is an interview with Alexander Stratton, father of Elias Andrew Stratton. Alexander was about 58 years old when this book was published, and Elias still lived at home in Ohio. (See also the 1880 census, below.)
1854 Birth
These are birth dates that were copied from the Stratton family bible in 1929 by Edna Stratton. Included on line 5 is Edna’s father, Andrew E Stratton, born September 6, 1854. Family bibles were kept before the government required birth records. This little book is only a copy of the names and dates from a family bible, but the information is consistent with other sources, like the U.S. census.
Notice that in the family bible and in the 1860 census he is called “Andrew.” Later he prefers “Elias.”
1877 Marriage
This is a primary record documenting the marriage of Elias and Anna A. Main. The minister who officiated was Elder Levi B. Sherwood of Marlborough Church. This marriage information is also found in the Stratton family bible transcription that was made by their daughter Edna.

Birth of Children
Delaware County, Ohio had birth records by the time the Stratton children were born. Edna and her brother Harry were born there, and we have these primary records documenting both occasions. Their brother Otis was born in Illinois, and there is no such record for him.
1877 Daughter Edna
Her mother’s name is misspelled and her gender is not recorded. Nevertheless, this record is considered proof of her lineage.
