    The Tanguay Collection says nothing is known about Etienne Blau. The entry in Tanguay is based entirely on the 1727 marriage record of Nicolas Blot from Kaskaskia. Fr. Tanguay used the “Blau” spelling. In Kaskaskia records, the name is “Blot.”

    The 1727 marriage record says his name was Nicolas Blot. But the civil records all say his name was Francois Blot dit Charron. We know this is the same person because both church and civil marriage records include the names of his parents. And there is no mention of a Nicolas Blot in the civil records.
