Jean was baptized at St-Jacques in Dieppe, Seine-Maritime, Normandie, France. He arrived in Montreal in 1655 and his occupation was that of a trader.

He married Marguerite Sedilot on Sep 19, 1654 at Immaculate Conception in Trois-Rivières, St. Maurice Co, Quebec, Canada. This marriage was invalid because Marguerite Sedilot was not yet 12 years old. The marriage ceremony was repeated the following year at Notre-Dame de Montréal on Apr 12, 1655.

He was found murdered in his bed on Dec 3, 1685, and was buried in the cemetery of Notre Dame on Dec 4, 1685.
